Okay, so I am currently reading this book called You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero and I am obsessed with it! She is speaking to me in ways no other self-help book has. And I really think that it is because she acknowledges the fact that some people think self-help books and finding your faith is a load of crap.
She has such a funny and sarcastic narrative that it is so easy to just keep reading on. She talks about how you need to not live in the past or in the future, living in this moment is the most imperative thing. Because you can’t change the past and you can’t control the future but you can enjoy this moment happening right now.
It’s making me re-evaluate everything that I ever believed in or didn’t know I believed in. Stuff that stemmed back from what my parents ingrained into my brain from the time I was two years old! Don’t talk so loud, don’t shout, keep your opinions to yourself, be seen not heard, don’t make a mess, perfection is key. Now, she is not trying to ingrain into your brains that it is all your parents fault and you should hate them, because really it’s not their fault either. It’s societies. And I am fully aware how typical that answer is, but it’s sadly the truth.
Society has created these expectations for all of us. Expectations that none of us will ever live up to. Beauty standards, education standards, qualifications for jobs, family life, relationships your love life. Jen discusses tossing out all those notions and of course living to follow your own expectations and your own dreams.
Easier said then done.
I am only on the first few chapters and already I am in love and needing to share it with all of you. Right now I am learning about the Big Snooze of all our lives. It’s basically our lives before we wake up and realize who we really can be.
Once I’ve read more I will share all else I have learned. Sorry if this was a spoiler for anyone. Hopefully it’s encouraged others to read this book too!
Until next time…
